Millennium has an ambitious commitment to develop novel treatments for inflammatory diseases based on a thorough understanding of the molecular pathways that underlie these diseases, and of the most appropriate points for therapeutic intervention within these pathways.
Much of our R&D within this area is conducted in an innovative alliance with Aventis Pharma. In this alliance, several hundred full-time equivalent scientists are collaborating on discovery and development of small-molecule drugs and other product candidates for the treatment of:
Rheumatoid arthritis
Asthma
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Multiple sclerosis
Inflammatory bowel disease.
The companies are sharing discovery-stage assets in their inflammation pipelines, developing new technologies jointly and sharing costs equally. Our mutual goal is to develop novel treatments for these five key diseases. New drugs identified in the collaboration will be jointly marketed by Millennium and Aventis in North America.
Separate from our collaborative program with Aventis, Millennium has an investigational antibody drug in phase II clinical trials as a potential treatment for inflammatory bowel disease.
